DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Homeobox protein GBX-2; AltName: Full=Gastrulation and brain-specific homeobox protein 2; AltName: Full=Stimulated by retinoic acid gene 7 protein;
FUNCTION: May act as a transcription factor for cell pluripotency and differentiation in the embryo.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus (Probable).
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in adult brain, spleen and female genital tract. No expression in heart, liver, lung, kidney, or testis.
DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Expressed during gastrulation in the three primitive germ layers and in the pharyngeal arches. In later stages, expressed in the developing nervous system, midbrain/ hindbrain boundary, cerebellum anlage, certain rhombomeres, regions of the spinal cord, and in the developing dorsal thalamus and corpus striatum.
