ID:RX_MOUSE DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Retinal homeobox protein Rx; AltName: Full=Retina and anterior neural fold homeobox protein; FUNCTION: Plays a critical role in eye formation by regulating the initial specification of retinal cells and/or their subsequent proliferation. Binds to the photoreceptor conserved element-I (PCE-1/Ret 1) in the photoreceptor cell-specific arrestin promoter (By similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in the photoreceptor and inner nuclear layers. DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE: Strongly expressed in anterior neural plate at E8.5, followed in optic sulci and ventral forebrain at E9.0, and in eye at E10.5 uniformly expressed in neuroretina at E15.5, and at later stages, expression decreases. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the paired homeobox family. Bicoid subfamily. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 homeobox DNA-binding domain.

Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
