Human Gene ORC5 (uc003vcb.3)
  Description: Homo sapiens origin recognition complex, subunit 5 (ORC5), transcript variant 1, mRNA.
RefSeq Summary (NM_002553): The origin recognition complex (ORC) is a highly conserved six subunit protein complex essential for the initiation of the DNA replication in eukaryotic cells. Studies in yeast demonstrated that ORC binds specifically to origins of replication and serves as a platform for the assembly of additional initiation factors such as Cdc6 and Mcm proteins. The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the ORC complex. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2010].

  ID: ORC5_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Origin recognition complex subunit 5;
FUNCTION: Component of the origin recognition complex (ORC) that binds origins of replication. DNA-binding is ATP-dependent, however specific DNA sequences that define origins of replication have not been identified so far. ORC is required to assemble the pre-replication complex necessary to initiate DNA replication.
SUBUNIT: ORC is composed of six subunits. In human, ORC is cell cycle-dependent regulated: it is sequentially assembled at the exit from anaphase of mitosis and disassembled as cells enter S phase.
INTERACTION: Q13415:ORC1; NbExp=5; IntAct=EBI-374928, EBI-374847; Q13416:ORC2; NbExp=7; IntAct=EBI-374928, EBI-374957; Q9UBD5:ORC3; NbExp=15; IntAct=EBI-374928, EBI-374916; O43929:ORC4; NbExp=2; IntAct=EBI-374928, EBI-374889;
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Abundant in spleen, ovary, prostate, testis, and colon mucosa.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the ORC5 family.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
