Human Gene TAF2 (uc003you.3)
  Description: Homo sapiens TAF2 RNA polymerase II, TATA box binding protein (TBP)-associated factor, 150kDa (TAF2), mRNA.
RefSeq Summary (NM_003184): Initiation of transcription by RNA polymerase II requires the activities of more than 70 polypeptides. The protein that coordinates these activities is transcription factor IID (TFIID), which binds to the core promoter to position the polymerase properly, serves as the scaffold for assembly of the remainder of the transcription complex, and acts as a channel for regulatory signals. TFIID is composed of the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and a group of evolutionarily conserved proteins known as TBP-associated factors or TAFs. TAFs may participate in basal transcription, serve as coactivators, function in promoter recognition or modify general transcription factors (GTFs) to facilitate complex assembly and transcription initiation. This gene encodes one of the larger subunits of TFIID that is stably associated with the TFIID complex. It contributes to interactions at and downstream of the transcription initiation site, interactions that help determine transcription complex response to activators. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

  ID: TAF2_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Transcription initiation factor TFIID subunit 2; AltName: Full=150 kDa cofactor of initiator function; AltName: Full=RNA polymerase II TBP-associated factor subunit B; AltName: Full=TBP-associated factor 150 kDa; AltName: Full=Transcription initiation factor TFIID 150 kDa subunit; Short=TAF(II)150; Short=TAFII-150; Short=TAFII150;
FUNCTION: Transcription factor TFIID is one of the general factors required for accurate and regulated initiation by RNA polymerase II. TFIID is a multimeric protein complex that plays a central role in mediating promoter responses to various activators and repressors. It requires core promoter-specific cofactors for productive transcription stimulation. TAF2 stabilizes TFIID binding to core promoter.
SUBUNIT: Component of transcription factor TFIID which is composed of TBP and a number of TBP-associated factors. Interacts with TAF2C1. Component of the TFTC-HAT complex.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in all tissues tested.
MISCELLANEOUS: PubMed:9418870 was unable to show an association between TAF2 and TFIID.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the TAF2 family.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=AAC68502.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Sequence=AAH64830.1; Type=Miscellaneous discrepancy; Note=Contaminating sequence. Potential poly-A sequence;

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
